News: Body found in car that drove off Virginia Beach Fishing Pier

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – According to WAVY, a body was found inside the vehicle that drove off the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier on Jan. 27.

A red Nissan Kicks SUV driver crashed through a metal gate and drove down the length of the pier before going off the edge of the pier around 7 a.m.

Conditions proved too treacherous to recover the submerged vehicle until Friday. Crews from Crofton Industries located the SUV, which had drifted northwest of the pier, and were able to remove it from the ocean around 9:20 a.m.

Crews covered the SUV with a tarp and placed it on a barge that was taken out to calmer waters so forensic specialists could extract the body and hand it over to the medical examiner to identify it.

Officials have not yet released the victim’s name.
