News Update: Man, 38, charged in connection to fatal Chesapeake hit-and-run

CHESAPEAKE, VA – Police have arrested and charged the suspect believed to be responsible for a hit-and-run in Chesapeake that claimed the life of an 8-year-old child on Tuesday, the Virginian-Pilot reports.

Police say the driver, a 38-year-old Virginia Beach man, fled the scene after fatally striking the child as he crossed South Battlefield Boulevard near Debaun Avenue at about 4:15 p.m.

The child was rushed to an area hospital, where he tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver was arrested on Thursday and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death. He is currently being held  Chesapeake City Jail, where he is set to be arraigned sometime today.
