News: Multi-car wreck causes 4-mile backup on I-264 EB in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Crews were dispatched to a crash involving several vehicles Monday morning on Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach, reports WAVY.

The accident impacted the eastbound highway at mile marker 18.7, east of Rosemont Road, in the North Central area. At the time of a report by the Virginia Department of Transport (VDOT) shortly before 8:30 a.m., a four-mile backup had formed in the area.

While authorities have not released a sequence of events leading up to the wreck, the three left eastbound lanes were closed in the immediate aftermath. Morning commuters were forced to divert onto Rosemont Road as crews tended to the scene.

It was unclear when the roadway was expected to be cleared, but by 9:30 a.m., an hour later, only one eastbound lane of I-264 remained blocked.

No serious injuries have been confirmed as of this writing.
