News: Accident reported on northbound James River Bridge into Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Authorities responded to a collision Friday morning that blocked a lane on U.S. Highway 17 heading into Newport News, according to 511 Virginia.

The crash happened on the northbound lanes of the highway over the James River Bridge. It was first reported by 511 at 6:40 a.m.

Although the circumstances of the event remain unclear, one northbound lane remained closed for nearly an hour, suggesting a major accident and a more involved emergency response.

By 7:35 a.m., crews had cleared the scene off the roadway and all travel lanes were reopened to the public.

It remains unclear whether anyone sustained injuries and/or had to be taken to a hospital.
