News: Driver dies after car crashes off I-64 in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — A single-vehicle wreck early Sunday off Interstate 64 in Virginia Beach claimed the life of a 47-year-old Chesapeake man, reports 13NewsNow.

The accident happened on the westbound lanes of I-64, just east of Indian River Road. First responders arrived on the scene some time after 6:35 a.m.

According to the Virginia State Patrol (VSP), Kenneth Monroe was behind the wheel of a vehicle that traveled off the roadway and entered a grassy median, where it collided with a concrete drainage system.

Monroe, who suffered fatal injuries, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials observed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

No other occupants or vehicles were involved.

While an investigation remains underway, alcohol and speed have been ruled out as contributing factors in the accident.
