News: Accident closes US-17 NB on James River Bridge into Newport News
NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Authorities were called to a crash early Monday that blocked northbound U.S. Highway 17 heading into Newport News, according to WAVY.
The accident impacted the northbound lanes over the James River Bridge. It was first reported by the Virginia Department of Transportation at 3:57 a.m.
Very few details have been made available, but a section of the northbound highway was shut down as crews tended to the scene, creating significant delays for morning commuters.
By 7:00 a.m., more than three hours later, all travel lanes were reopened to traffic.
It remains unclear at this time what caused the wreck, how many vehicles were involved, and whether anyone was injured.
