CHESAPEAKE, VA — A 23-year-old man died following a police chase and two-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon in Chesapeake that left another person injured, according to WAVY.
The collision unfolded in the area of Military Highway South and George Washington Highway North on November 24, some time after 1:16 p.m.
Chesapeake Police said officers were near Military Highway South and Interstate 464 when they attempted to pull over a gray Subaru sedan for a registration violation and its failure to maintain a travel lane. A pursuit was initiated when the driver of the Subaru, Derron Omar Williams, Jr., of Norfolk, failed to stop.
The fleeing vehicle ultimately collided with an uninvolved white Chevrolet SUV.
First responders pronounced Williams deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a woman whose identity remains undisclosed, was rushed to an area hospital. Despite significant damage to both vehicles, her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening at the time of transport.
The intersection was shut down during the response and investigation, which continues to be handled by the Chesapeake Police Department CRASH Team.
