News: Driver dies after fiery rollover crash at Portsmouth apartment building

PORTSMOUTH, VA — A fiery, high-speed rollover crash last Friday, December 15, in southwest Portsmouth claimed a driver’s life, according to WAVY.

The fatal collision unfolded at an apartment building in the 100 block of Mohawk Drive, off of Portsmouth Boulevard, at about 6:00 p.m.

A witness said the victim’s car was on fire when traveled at a high rate of speed down Portsmouth Boulevard toward the building and began to flip before slamming into the exterior stairwell of renovated apartments.

Portsmouth Fire Rescue crews who arrived on the scene to put out the flames discovered that the driver appeared to have died in the fiery wreck.

An investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office and Portsmouth Police was underway.
