News: Tractor-trailer overturns, closing part of I-264 WB in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, VA — A rollover crash involving a big rig Friday afternoon caused long delays on Interstate 264 in Portsmouth, reports WAVY.

The accident unfolded on the westbound highway near exit 2B to Greenwood Drive. A road closure was enforced by 12:23 p.m. as crews responded to the scene.

Motorists were told to expect delays on and around both the westbound lanes and westbound entrance ramp. At the time of WAVY’s report, a two-mile traffic backup had already formed.

It was unclear what led up to the wreck, but photos captured by traffic cameras show the semi-truck on its side, blocking the westbound highway at mile marker 1.6.

Authorities did not immediately say whether anyone was seriously hurt.
