Motorcyclist Injured Fleeing Trooper on I-264 [VIRGINIA BEACH, VA]

Motorcyclist injured fleeing trooper on I-264 after a failed traffic stop attempt is now recovering from life-threatening injuries sustained in a serious collision. The crash occurred Monday evening on Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach when a man riding a black 2009 Suzuki motorcycle attempted to evade a Virginia State Police trooper during a traffic stop.

According to Virginia State Police, the incident began at approximately 8:18 p.m. when a trooper attempted to pull over the motorcycle on the eastbound side of I-264 near Witchduck Road. The stop was initiated due to the improper display of the motorcycle’s registration. Instead of complying, the motorcyclist sped off, changing lanes at high speed in an attempt to escape. Unfortunately, the chase ended abruptly when the rider collided directly into the rear of a 2023 Nissan Rogue.

As a result of the impact, the motorcyclist sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. Emergency services responded quickly, and the rider was transported to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released.

Due to the severity of the crash, all eastbound lanes of I-264, including the entrance ramp, were temporarily shut down as Virginia State Police’s crash reconstruction team conducted a thorough investigation. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), as of shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, multiple eastbound lanes and the entrance ramp remained closed to facilitate the ongoing investigation.

Compensation at Stake for Crash Victims

When an accident involves reckless behavior or a high-speed pursuit, the resulting injuries can be devastating, not only physically but financially. Victims in these types of crashes may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, future rehabilitation, lost wages, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering. If the injured party survives, the road to recovery can be a long and expensive process. In the unfortunate event of a fatality, families may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim. Even in cases where the injured party may have played a role in the incident, there may still be legal avenues to recover partial compensation under Virginia’s laws, depending on the circumstances.
