Woman Killed in Norfolk I-64 Crash; DUI Manslaughter Charge [Norfolk, VA]

Woman Killed in Norfolk I-64 Crash on Saturday evening when a high-speed BMW lost control on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64, resulting in a multi-vehicle collision that claimed one life and injured another. According to the Virginia State Police, 25-year-old Devon Acevero was operating a 2005 BMW eastbound just before 6:35 p.m. when he veered off course. After striking a concrete Jersey barrier, the BMW careened back across all lanes and struck a 2021 Jeep Cherokee, sending it off the roadway.
The Jeep’s driver, 56-year-old Steven Wayne Boyle, suffered injuries in the impact and was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Officers reported that Boyle’s wounds, while serious, were not life-threatening. Tragically, his passenger and mother-in-law, 70-year-old Paulette Angela Chambers, was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses described the crash site as chaotic, with bystanders and first responders working swiftly to administer aid and clear the wreckage.
Following standard DUI investigations, state police determined that Acevero showed signs of impairment at the time of the crash. Breath and blood tests are pending, but authorities have already charged him with DUI Manslaughter. He remains held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail. Meanwhile, all eastbound lanes of I-64 have since reopened, though motorists experienced significant delays during the evening rush.
