VSP Launches Investigation into Two Fatal Virginia Crashes [PORTSMOUTH, VA]
Two Fatal Virginia Crashes are currently under investigation by the Virginia State Police (VSP), following two separate incidents on Saturday.
The first crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Guards Shore Road in the Bloxom area of the Eastern Shore. According to state police, Radain Alberto Tomas Isidro, a 26-year-old driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze sedan, was traveling eastbound when he veered off the road and overturned into a marsh area.
The vehicle rolled over into approximately four feet of water, completely submerging the passenger compartment. A 25-year-old woman managed to escape with minor injuries, but Isidro was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations indicate that speed was not a contributing factor, and it remains unclear if alcohol played a role.
The second incident took place later that night, around 8:30 p.m., on I-85 in Brunswick County. A Nissan Armada left the roadway and struck multiple objects before overturning.
The driver, James Courtney Hughes, a 51-year-old from Danville, Virginia, died upon impact. Police suspect that speed was a factor, though the involvement of alcohol has yet to be determined.
