The driver, navigating southbound on Route 13 in Exmore, failed to comply with law enforcement’s attempts to stop him. After the pursuit, authorities discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from New York.

As the pursuit extended into the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, state police and Northampton County deputies discontinued their chase, with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Police Department continuing the pursuit across the bridge and into Virginia Beach.

Upon entering Virginia Beach, local troopers initiated pursuit of the suspect vehicle. The chase culminated in a tragic crash on Shore Drive and Atlantic Avenue, where the driver lost control, careening off the roadway into a tree line.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the driver’s identity once the next-of-kin is notified, according to the State Police.
