Roode of Waterville, Maine, pulled into the Hampton Town Offices parking lot, Forcino activated his blue lights to initiate a traffic stop. Instead of complying, Roode accelerated rapidly, driving recklessly through town.

The high-speed pursuit ended in a Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at 369 Lafayette Road. Roode and his passenger, 18-year-old Zachahira Stewart of Madison, Maine, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

According to police reports, one suspect fled a nearby business while the other ran into a wooded area. Officers swiftly located Roode inside the business. He was found to be uncooperative and in possession of a stolen handgun. Authorities also determined that Roode was under the influence of alcohol.

Roode faces multiple felony charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) and theft of stolen property, while Stewart was charged with unlawful possession/intoxication and loitering. Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno emphasized the significant risk reckless drivers pose to public safety, particularly during incidents involving intoxicated individuals and firearms.
