Four Seriously Injured in Wrong-Way I-664 Crash [CHESAPEAKE, VA]

Four people were seriously injured in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 17, 2026, after a wrong-way driver caused a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 664 in Chesapeake, according to Virginia State Police. State Police became aware of a 2013 Honda Civic traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-664 at approximately 4:00 a.m. The Honda Civic struck a 2026 Mazda CX-50 near Exit 5. After the collision, the Honda Civic’s driver exited the vehicle and ran into the roadway, where he was struck by a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The driver of the Honda Civic suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Three women in the Mazda CX-50 also suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Amber Urena, one of the women in the Mazda who was driving the vehicle, spoke with WAVY News 10 about the crash. “My sister-in-law was in the back, and she’s like, ‘I’m trying to hang on,’ because she was going in and out of consciousness, and here I am like, ‘that’s why I have,'” she told reporter Angela Bohon. Urena said she is recovering at home, her sister was released from the hospital, but her sister-in-law remained hospitalized with a broken hip and broken ribs as of Monday.
