Chesapeake Man Fatally Struck by Tractor-Trailer on I-664 [Chesapeake, VA]

A Chesapeake man fatally struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 664 early Tuesday lost his life after pulling his vehicle onto the shoulder, according to the Virginia State Police. The incident, which occurred near the College Drive exit in Suffolk, resulted in the death of 39-year-old Corey L.B. Knight.

Knight had been driving a 2023 Volkswagen GTI when he pulled onto the shoulder of the interstate’s southbound lanes. According to state police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya, Knight activated his hazard lights before leaving his vehicle. At approximately 1:15 a.m., a 2023 Freightliner truck veered onto the shoulder, striking Knight and his vehicle. Tragically, Knight died upon impact.

Authorities have stated that neither speed nor the influence of drugs or alcohol appeared to play a role in the crash. However, it remains unclear why Knight had stopped on the shoulder or why the tractor-trailer drifted from its lane. The case is now under review by Suffolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Narendra Pleas, who will decide whether the truck driver will face any criminal charges.
