Woman Hurt in Interstate 64 Crash Under Investigation by VSP [NORFOLK, VA]

Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a serious highway incident after a woman was severely injured in a freak accident involving flying debris on Interstate 64. The incident, which occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 13, has sparked a call for public assistance in identifying the driver of a vehicle believed to be involved.

According to authorities, the incident took place around 8:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-64, near the 284A exit. Troopers say a trailer hitch became detached from the rear of a white Ford pickup truck traveling on the interstate. Moments later, the heavy metal hitch struck the windshield of a blue Honda Civic, piercing through the passenger side and hitting a 29-year-old woman directly in the face.

The driver of the Civic reacted quickly, transporting the injured passenger to Sentara Leigh Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she remains in critical condition with what troopers describe as life-threatening injuries.

The Virginia State Police are now actively seeking any witnesses or motorists who may have seen the white Ford pickup truck or have dashcam footage from that time. The vehicle did not stop at the scene, and investigators believe the driver may not be aware of the extent of the damage caused by the detached trailer hitch.
