Suspect Caught After Trooper Struck by Car in Virginia Beach [VIRGINIA BEACH, VA]
A Virginia State Trooper was struck by a car early Wednesday morning in Virginia Beach during a high-speed chase involving a blue Dodge Charger. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Jayden Wallace of Virginia Beach, fled a traffic stop and eluded authorities for several hours before being apprehended later that day.
Details of the Incident
The incident began around 5:15 a.m. on Interstate 264 eastbound near Laskin Road. According to Virginia State Police, Wallace was clocked driving at 125 mph in a 55 mph zone. When signaled to pull over, he instead led officers on a chase that ended on Americus Avenue, a dead-end road near the city’s police training center.
After being blocked in by the trooper’s vehicle, Wallace reportedly struck the trooper as he sped off. This reckless act placed not only the trooper’s life at risk but also endangered nearby residents, including families in the quiet neighborhood.
Joshua Dickerson, who lives nearby with his infant son, expressed his frustration over the danger posed by such reckless behavior. “Especially now that I have a 6-month-old, I have zero tolerance. You’re putting lives in danger,” he said.
The pursuit ended several hours later when authorities located Wallace’s 2019 Dodge Charger on Woodfern Place, about a mile from the scene. Wallace was taken into custody without further incident.
Charges Filed Against the Suspect
Wallace, who joined the Navy in 2022 and is currently assigned to the Surface Combat Systems Training Command Hampton Roads, faces multiple charges. These include felony eluding, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving by speed, and several other traffic offenses. He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday afternoon.
A Navy spokesperson acknowledged the arrest and stated, “The Navy takes these matters seriously and cooperates fully with the Virginia State Police in the investigation.”
Compensation at Stake for the Victim
The injured trooper has the right to pursue compensation for physical injuries, emotional trauma, and any financial losses resulting from this incident. When a law enforcement officer is injured in the line of duty due to someone else’s recklessness, they may be entitled to benefits such as medical coverage, lost wages, and damages for pain and suffering.
