News: Driver left critically hurt after semi crashes, catches fire on I-64 in Norfolk

NORFOLK, VA — One person was hospitalized with critical injuries Wednesday morning after a semi-truck wreck on Interstate 64 in Norfolk, reports WAVY.

The accident unfolded on the eastbound lanes approaching Exit 277A to Tidewater Drive, in the city’s northeast area. It was first reported at around 7:26 a.m.

Virginia State Police indicated that the tractor-trailer collided with multiple jersey walls before catching fire.

The driver, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was rushed by Norfolk Fire Rescue crews to an area hospital.

The exit ramp was at least partially blocked and the east center lane, right lane, and right shoulder were shut down during the emergency response and initial investigation. T
