Hit-and-Run Causes Delays Near Rip Rap Road [HAMPTON, VA]

Hit-and-Run Causes Delays Near Rip Rap Road [HAMPTON, VA]

Hit-and-run crashes caused significant delays in Hampton Roads early Tuesday morning, disrupting traffic and creating bottlenecks. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the eastbound left shoulder and left lane near Rip Rap Road remained closed due to the crash, leading to extensive delays for commuters heading toward the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT). Virginia State Police confirmed that the incident was a hit-and-run, although, fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Additional Crashes Exacerbate Traffic Issues

The chaos on the eastbound side wasn’t the only challenge for drivers. On the westbound side of I-64 near Rip Rap Road, two separate crashes compounded the situation. The first involved three vehicles, while the second crash involved two. Police reported no injuries in either of these incidents but noted that they contributed to the already heavy congestion.

Meanwhile, on the southbound side of I-264 near Brambleton Avenue, a tractor-trailer crash caused multiple closures. The west left center lane, right center lane, right lane, and right shoulder were all blocked, further intensifying delays for morning commuters.

Compensation at Stake for Hit-and-Run Victims

While no injuries were reported in this particular hit-and-run incident, it’s essential to understand the types of compensation victims in such cases may be entitled to. Hit-and-run accidents can leave victims with property damage, medical bills, lost wages, and emotional distress.

Even if no physical injuries occur, the financial burden of vehicle repairs and the inconvenience caused by the accident can be significant. In cases where injuries are sustained, victims may also seek compensation for ongoing medical treatment, pain and suffering, and diminished quality of life.

Filing an insurance claim after a hit-and-run can be complicated, especially when the responsible party is unknown. However, uninsured motorist coverage, a component of most auto insurance policies, can provide financial relief. Victims must document the damage thoroughly, report the accident promptly, and seek legal guidance to ensure they receive fair compensation.
