40-Year-Old Norfolk Woman Killed In Hit-and-Run [NORFOLK, VA]

40-Year-Old Norfolk Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run [NORFOLK, VA]

A tragic hit-and-run claimed the life of Amanda A. Godfrey, a 40-year-old Norfolk resident, on Wilson Road late Tuesday night. According to Norfolk Police, the incident occurred in the 1600 block of Wilson Road, with a call reporting the crash at approximately 10:11 p.m. Neighbors described the heartbreaking scene as they witnessed the aftermath.

Jose Vazquez, a nearby resident, shared his account: “I just heard, like, a hit, but no screaming. You hear like a tire, but not really too much noise. But then I saw a body lying on the side, and the car sped off.”

Another neighbor, Rameik Johnson, recounted how he and his wife were alerted to the incident by the flashing blue and red police lights. “We came to check the door, and that’s what we saw—right where those tire marks are at was where her body was laid out,” Johnson said.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, attempting to save Godfrey with a defibrillator, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing someone, possibly a relative, calling her name.

This tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about Wilson Road’s traffic conditions. “The speeding is a big issue,” Johnson added. “The road has gotten a lot busier, and semi-trucks and dirt bikes make it dangerous for residents. It’s one of the reasons we’re moving.”

The driver responsible fled the scene, leaving police to continue their investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
