Woman Killed After Motorcycle Leaves Roadway and Strikes Fire Hydrant on Warwick Boulevard [NEWPORT NEWS, VA]

A woman died Wednesday morning after her motorcycle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant near the intersection of Warwick Boulevard and Boxley Boulevard in Newport News, according to the Newport News Police Department. Officers responded to the area at approximately 9:58 a.m. on August 26, 2026. The preliminary investigation determined that the woman was traveling southbound on Warwick Boulevard past the Boxley Boulevard intersection when her motorcycle left the road, struck a curb, and then hit a fire hydrant. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Southbound Warwick Boulevard was blocked between Boxley Boulevard and Wendwood Drive while investigators worked the scene. Newport News Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
