Portsmouth Woman Charged for Hitting Two Officers with Vehicle [Portsmouth, VA]

Portsmouth police have charged a 29-year-old woman, Shaquilla Oneka Cuffee, with multiple offenses, including DUI and malicious wounding, after she struck two officers with her vehicle early Sunday morning. The incident occurred after an altercation in the 4000 block of Missy Elliott Boulevard, which prompted police intervention.

Just after 2 a.m., officers responded to the scene due to reports of a disorderly crowd. While dispersing the crowd, Cuffee allegedly struck two of the officers with her vehicle and fled the scene. Both officers were injured, and one required hospitalization. Fortunately, the hospitalized officer was treated and later released.

Following the collision, Portsmouth police initiated a pursuit and successfully apprehended Cuffee on Interstate 264 eastbound. She was taken into custody without further incident. In addition to the DUI and malicious wounding charges, Cuffee faces multiple other charges linked to the crash.

Compensation at Stake for the Victims

In situations like this, the injured officers may be entitled to compensation for the injuries they sustained while on duty. Victims of such incidents, particularly law enforcement officers, have legal rights that extend beyond their standard benefits. Compensation may include coverage for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages during recovery, and long-term physical therapy or rehabilitation.

When an officer is injured due to a DUI-related accident, the case also raises the possibility of punitive damages. These damages are designed to penalize the offender for particularly reckless or dangerous behavior, such as driving under the influence. Additionally, if the officers suffer long-term or permanent disabilities from their injuries, they may be entitled to future compensation for lost earning capacity and diminished quality of life.

We know that victims of such accidents, particularly those serving in law enforcement, often require thorough legal representation to ensure they receive the full compensation they deserve.
