Pedestrian and Passenger Critically Injured in Wheatland Drive Crash; Driver Charged [HAMPTON, VA]

Two people are in critical condition following a hit-and-run crash on Wheatland Drive in Hampton Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2026, according to the Hampton Police Division. A 31-year-old Poquoson man has since been charged in connection with the incident, which sent both a pedestrian on a residential lawn and a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Hampton police, officers were dispatched to Wheatland Drive at approximately 3:01 p.m. following multiple reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. While en route, officers were advised that the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene on foot. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male pedestrian and an adult female passenger in the suspect vehicle, both with life-threatening injuries. Hampton Fire and Rescue provided medical treatment at the scene before transporting both victims to a local hospital, where they remained in critical condition. The preliminary investigation determined that the suspect vehicle was traveling eastbound on Wheatland Drive when the driver lost control. The vehicle entered a residential yard, where it struck the male pedestrian before crashing into an unoccupied parked vehicle. The Hampton Police Division’s Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The 31-year-old Poquoson man faces a felony hit-and-run charge. Cpl.
