Four Injured, Three Seriously, in Two-Vehicle Crash at 22nd Street Bridge [CHESAPEAKE, VA]

Four people were injured — three of them seriously — following a two-vehicle crash at the 22nd Street Bridge in Chesapeake Saturday evening, according to the Chesapeake Police Department. Officers were called to the bridge at approximately 10:19 p.m. on September 12, 2026. The first vehicle involved had two occupants: one was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the second sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken for treatment. The second vehicle likewise carried two occupants, both of whom were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers were still at the scene at the time of the initial report, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The crash occurred at the 22nd Street Bridge in Chesapeake. Because police have not yet released details about what caused the two vehicles to collide, the circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear. Investigators may review the vehicles, witness statements, available video footage, and other evidence as they work to determine what happened.

When multiple people are seriously injured in the same collision, each person’s potential claim must be evaluated based on the specific circumstances of the crash. Passengers and drivers may have different legal options depending on what the investigation determines about how the collision occurred and whether another party’s negligence contributed to their injuries.

Determining responsibility for a two-vehicle crash may require reviewing the actions of each driver and the available evidence. Investigators may consider vehicle positions, witness statements, physical evidence from the scene, available video footage, and other information. Virginia’s contributory negligence rule can significantly affect auto accident claims, making the specific circumstances surrounding the collision particularly important.

For people who sustain life-threatening injuries in a crash, the medical and financial effects can extend well beyond the initial hospitalization. The nature and extent of those effects will depend on the injuries involved, the treatment required, and the person’s recovery. Medical records and other documentation may become important when evaluating the losses associated with a potential personal injury claim.
