Five Seriously Injured in Landstown Road Crash [VIRGINIA BEACH, VA]

A car accident in Virginia Beach left four juveniles and one adult with life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department. Emergency Communications and Citizens Services received a report of the two-vehicle crash at approximately 1:45 p.m. on July 11, 2026, in the 2000 block of Landstown Road. When officers and EMS personnel arrived, they found multiple people seriously injured. The four juveniles and the adult driver of one of the vehicles were transported to area hospitals for treatment, while the driver of the second vehicle was not injured. The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the crash.

A witness who was among the first to arrive at the scene, Thomas Otranto, spoke to WAVY News 10 about what he encountered. “Every day when I wake up I ask God to use me, and when I get in the car I say God I’m available — and I was praying that less than five minutes before I came up here,” Otranto said. His words reflected the shock that set in for those who witnessed the immediate aftermath of a crash that left five people — four of them children — fighting for their lives on a Saturday afternoon.

Crashes that seriously injure multiple children in a single collision carry some of the most significant legal and human consequences of any roadway incident. When a child is critically hurt in a crash caused by another driver’s negligence, the legal landscape differs in important ways from cases involving only adult victims. In Virginia, a personal injury claim on behalf of a minor is typically brought by a parent or guardian acting on the child’s behalf. Compensation may include emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, surgical costs, rehabilitation, and the long-term physical, developmental, and emotional effects of serious injuries sustained during childhood. Because claims involving injured children can involve unique legal considerations and procedural requirements, preserving evidence and documenting medical treatment early can be important while the investigation is ongoing.

The adult injured in the crash may also have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Determining liability and the available damages will depend on the facts established during the investigation and the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The cause of the crash has not yet been released, and investigators will work to determine how the collision occurred. In any serious two-vehicle crash, establishing the facts surrounding right-of-way, vehicle movements, witness statements, and other available evidence can be important in evaluating liability.

When multiple people are seriously injured in the same collision, each injured person may have different injuries, losses, and legal interests. Understanding those individual circumstances can be important when evaluating potential claims.
